Songs in the Skyspace is Landmarks' monthly music series hosted inside James Turrell’s Skyspace, The Color Inside. The program represents a diverse mix of voices and instruments and offers a unique way to engage with Turrell’s elegant light sequence.
Songs in the Skyspace runs monthly on select evenings during the sunset light sequence. Free reservations are required and can be made online. Please note that reservations tend to fill up three weeks in advance of performances.
Join us for a special performance by Austin Ukestra who will perform to the light sequence on Sunday, January 19.
Austin Ukestra is an eclectic instrumental ukulele ensemble that entertains and amazes listeners with their sharp skills and expansive repertoire. The group was formed in 2015 by Kevin Carroll, who provides arrangements and conducts their performances. The ever-expanding, boundary-pushing song library of the Austin Ukestra covers styles from blues to classical, jazz to early music, rock, country, pop, funk, Celtic and original compositions by Carroll. This 12-member group includes multiple types and sizes of ukuleles and the diminutive U-bass. The Austin Ukestra seek to entertain and educate their audience by exploring and elevating the possibilities of the ukulele.

Works of public art have the capacity to resonate deeply, stimulate curiosity, and inspire the imagination in unexpected ways. At The University of Texas at Austin, the public art collection is one of the most distinguishing features of the main campus, shaping impressions and offering a distinctive setting for memorable experiences.
As the university’s public art program, Landmarks enriches the lives of students and visitors by presenting art that is broadly accessible and free to all. Some fifty works of modern and contemporary art are throughout the 433-acre campus and viewed by thousands of people every day.
For many, the collection provides an introductory opportunity to discover great works of art. By creating equitable pathways to meaningful engagement, Landmarks reflects the complex audiences we serve and celebrates our differences.
