La Púrpura de la Rosa was first heard in Lima, Peru in 1701, making it the first opera to be performed in the New World. Tomás de Torrejón y Velasco's music will resound again on this week's show, in a performance by The Harp Consort, with soloists Judith Malafronte, Ellen Hargis, and Maria del Mar Fernández Doval.
