POSITION OVERVIEW

The KMFA Event Management and/or Audio/Technical Production Intern will work closely with the Director of Events and the Event Production Coordinator, providing hands-on support for live events and audio production needs. This role is designed for students interested in live event management and the technical production aspects of a nonprofit radio station.

The internship commitment will total 120-150 hours(100-120 for summer), starting conjunction with the typical higher ed academic calendars in Austin, for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, averaging 10 hours per week with flexibility. Typical office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays to facilitate collaboration with staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This internship is structured to introduce students to live event production, audio setup, and event coordination:

  • Assist with audio and video setup, equipment checks, and basic troubleshooting for events.
  • Support live production by assisting with soundboard operations, microphone setup, and stage management.
  • Maintain event equipment and inventory, ensuring proper handling and storage.
  • Help with guest registration, seating, and general event logistics.
  • Assist in coordinating with guest artists and performers, ensuring smooth transitions and setup.
  • Learn about KMFA’s approach to delivering professional-grade events with nonprofit budgets and resources.
  • Additional event and production tasks as assigned.

REQUIRED & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate student, enrolled in courses during the internship period.
  • In person office hours may be required on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Office 365, and social media management tools.
  • Strong written and visual communication skills.
  • Knowledge of audio equipment and production tools is beneficial.
  • Ability to work collaboratively under time-sensitive conditions
