TEXAS PERFORMING ARTS WITH ATX CHAMBER MUSIC AND JAZZ PRESENTS

BRANFORD MARSALIS

WITH THE UT JAZZ ORCHESTRA

OCTOBER 11 | 7:30 P.M. | BATES RECITAL HALL

Branford Marsalis continues to thrill audiences around the world while racking up achievements, even after four decades in the international spotlight. From his initial recognition as a young jazz lion, he has expanded his vision as an instrumentalist, composer, and educator, crossing stylistic boundaries while maintaining unwavering creativity. In the process, he has become a symbol of artistic excellence, winning three Grammy Awards, a Tony nomination for his work as a composer on Broadway, a citation by the National Endowment for the Arts as a Jazz Master, and a 2021 Primetime Emmy nomination.

In this special performance, Branford will be joined by students of UT’s premiere jazz ensemble, the Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Diego Rivera.

As part of the residency, Branford Marsalis will also perform with his renowned Quartet on Saturday, Oct 12 at 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. at The Mansion, presented by ATX Chamber Music and Jazz. The Branford Marsalis Quartet, formed in 1986, has established a rare breadth of stylistic range and is revered for its uncompromising interpretation of both original compositions and jazz and popular classics. Tickets are available now.

Support for Branford Marsalis’s residency is provided by the College of Fine Arts O’Donnell Visiting Artist Endowment, and Bill and Suzanne Childs
