“One is many” Program
G. Cassadò (1897-1966): Suite per violoncello solo
Preludio-Fantasia
Sardana
Intermezzo e Danza Finale
Master class by Dr. Francesco Mastromatteo will follow the concert from 3:45pm to 4:30pm.
K. Hanlon (1953): That’s It
----------
Z. Kodály: (1882-1967): Sonata op.8 per violoncello solo
Allegro maestoso ma appassionato
Adagio con grand’espressione
Allegro molto vivace
The program explores the immense beauty of the cello alone and its manyfold transformation. The folk music of Spain emerges in the Suite by Cassadò, while the folklore of Hungary explodes in the Sonata by Zoltan Kodàly and this national flavor gives the music an immense energy. What is most striking is to experience the imaginative power of the cello sound, which embrace a range of colors apparently unlimited in both works and moves from the most tender themes, to energetic dramatic moments, from the deepest dark tone to the highest brilliant color. Between those two inspired works, a metal style solo piece written by Dallas based composer Kevin Hanlon. Yes a metal piece for solo cello….another task this unlimited instrument can face. Because with a cello “one is many”…too many.
This concert is part of the Classical Music for the World (CMFW) International Music Exchange program that welcomes twenty nine students and teachers from the Robert Schumann Konservatorium from Zwickau, Germany, one student from South Korea, and a CMFW artist from Italy who are visiting Austin soon, from September 11th to September 20th.
This program is about building international friendships and experiencing other cultures while the musicians from different countries are making harmony together through music. During their visit, these musicians together with Austin students and teachers will give many concerts together in the city and the surrounding areas: four concerts open to the public with free admission and five Community Outreach Concerts at hospitals and schools. The visitors will also participate in the Welcome Week - Peace Day Austin program.
