The East Austin Creative Coalition will pay tribute to Austin music legend Dr. Beulah Agnes Curry-Jones, honoring her lifetime achievements in music, education, and community service. With this event, Dr. Curry-Jones will become the second recipient of the Coalition’s annual Austin Cultural Icon Award. The award ceremony will be at 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 25 at the KMFA Studios, 41 Navasota Street, Austin.

An Austin native, Dr. Curry-Jones has been a legend in Austin’s music scene and the educational landscape since the 1950s. She is a graduate of the historic Original L.C. Anderson High School, where she was a pianist and member of the choir and band. Dr. Curry-Jones earned her B.A. in Music Education from Prairie View A&M University, M.A. from Texas Southern University, and her doctorate in education from the University of Houston.
