Austin Chamber Music Center presents Chamber Connect: Spring Sessions, brand new performances as part of an immersive 40th season of virtual chamber music.

In a weave of connection and delight, ACMC presents fiery, determined, and deeply emotional works by Gustav Mahler, Danny Elfman, Florence Price, and Robert Schumann in a new concert called "Adoration." Featuring sisters Rita and Laura Andrade, two amazing ACMC alumni, along with Patrice Calixte (Associate Concertmaster, ASO) and ACMC Artistic Director Michelle Schumann.

Patrice Calixte

Beginning the violin at the age of eight, Canadian violinist Patrice Calixte was later admitted into a highly competitive high school music program in Montreal, Quebec, where he studied with Francine Pépin. He then went on to study with Claude Richard, at Université de Montréal where he obtained his Undergraduate and Master’s degree in music performance. He has performed as concertist all over the Quebec province as well as around very experienced orchestra musicians. Patrice has worked with many orchestras in Québec and Ontario, including the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Orchestre Symphonique de Québec and Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra. He was then hired in the first violin section of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra where he stayed for two years.

Rita Andrade

Rita Andrade, a native of Austin, Texas, is currently living as an active orchestral and studio violist in Los Angeles. After pursuing a pre-college arts education at Idyllwild Arts Academy in California, Rita continued studying viola performance for her bachelor’s degree in music at the University of Texas Butler School of Music and finished her masters at DePaul University.
In the years following school, Rita was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, with an assistant principal position for the 2014–2015 season. Rita was also a fellowship member of the Chicago Sinfonietta and Grant Park Symphony Project Inclusion programs. Some of her most memorable and influential musical experiences were at summer festivals such as the String Academy in Cambridge UK, Encore Chamber Music Festival, and Bowdoin Music Festival.

Laura Andrade

Texas native Laura Andrade is a Latina cellist who calls Austin home. She enjoys a diverse musical career as a solo, orchestra, and chamber musician. Laura is a prize-winning laureate of the 2019 Sphinx Competition and has been featured as a soloist with the Austin Civic Orchestra and San Antonio Symphony under the baton of maestro Ken-David Masur.

Laura has a passionate love and curiosity for chamber music. In the past, she has collaborated with members of the Juilliard, Borromeo, and Miró string quartets. She has performed at IMS Prussia Cove Open Chamber Music, Verbier Festival, and Accademia Isola Classica.

In 2019, Laura joined the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra as its inaugural Colton Fellow. She holds a bachelor’s degree and performer’s certificate from the Eastman School of Music, and a master’s degree from The Juilliard School.

Michelle Schumann

Hailed for her “sensitive, flexible, and tempestuous dexterity” (Fanfare Magazine), pianist Michelle Schumann has built a reputation for evocative and moving performances. Since 2006, Michelle has served as Artistic Director of the Austin Chamber Music Center, where she “is fearlessly expanding our definition of chamber music” (Austin American-Statesman). Her brand of performance includes an enthusiastic interplay with the audience and her trademark includes bringing diverse music together under a blanket of narrative events.

Schumann is artist-in-residence and professor of piano at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin and additionally holds a Performance Diploma from the Vienna Conservatory.
