Join Rocket Cinema as they celebrate 5 years of showing movies outside under the stars in Austin.  Space rockers The Dialtones and Scan Hopper will perform, enveloped in outer space animations by artists Lyon Graulty, Paul Beck, and Topher Sipes at Ani's Day and Night, an eastside oasis with great drinks and fun vibes.  RSVP to enter the raffle for prizes like astronaut ice cream, vinyl from local bands, and other space themed goodies!

Presenter Details

• Name: Rocket Cinema

Sara Nelson (Tosca String Quartet)  and Justin Sherburn (Montopolis) started Rocket Cinema during the pandemic to provide a safe place for folks to gather outside during troubled times. Justin grew up in Fort Worth and moved to Austin in the 90's to perform with rock and jazz bands.  Sara moved from Houston and has been playing cello in the symphony and opera for 25 years. Their little outdoor movie business has grown into an institution that supports film screenings all over Texas.  

Since their first shows in 2020, Rocket Cinema has produced over 250 movie screenings at parks, pools, and unique locations throughout central Texas for over 25,000 audience members.  From Jaws on the Water at Volente Beach to The Witch at Jester King's goat pen. From Koyaanisqatsi at Laguna Gloria to Purple Rain at Kenny Dorham's Backyard.  From Free Solo in the parking lot behind Austin Bouldering Project to Young Frankenstein at the Long Time sandlot baseball field.  Rocket Cinema has shown movies at the Long Center, Waterloo Greenway, Pease Park and dozens of other locations big and small throughout the city.
