DECLARATION PROJECT COMMUNITY SHOWCASE
WITH LARA DOWNES
FEBRUARY 22 | 2:00 P.M. | DRAYLEN MASON MUSIC STUDIO
KMFA's Declaration Project Community Showcase on Sunday, February 22nd, will feature performances by local artists and organizations inspired by our own community's perspectives on America's founding ideals: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
The Declaration Project in Austin invites all citizens and community members to share their reflections on the nation's founding ideals of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness through an online portal at thedeclarationproject.org. Reflections may be in the form of a performance, a song, a dance, a poem, or anything else that embodies your own expression. KMFA hopes this platform will create a positive, insightful forum for artists and all Austinites to voice their perspectives as we approach the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The Declaration Project Community Showcase on February 22nd will feature some of these reflections, in hopes of inspiring KMFA’s audiences and community partners to participate and reflect.
Performances will begin at 2:00 PM in the Draylen Mason Music Studio at KMFA. Arts organizations, artists, and community members have been selected to perform a short piece that embodies their perspectives on the founding ideals of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. MC’d by KMFA’s CEO and General Manager George Preston, presenters will be asked to briefly discuss their offerings and how these ideals affect their modern lives as citizens and as members of the arts community.
The program will showcase 13 different arts partners from Austin, Texas, some of whom will collaborate with pianist Lara Downes in their performances.
