The Neill-Cochran House Museum invites you to celebrate Juneteenth at a place that brings Austin history to life. Join us for a day of reflection, celebration, and community as we commemorate emancipation and the struggles and triumphs of those who fought for freedom and the ongoing journey towards equality.

Join a guided tour of Austin’s last intact slave dwelling. Meet the Buffalo Soldiers and learn about their contributions to American history. See the Rhea Rose (Phoenix Art Studio) art pop-up and the temporary exhibition, The Floating World by Daryl Howard, on display inside the Museum. View Fidencio Duran’s interior mural, Give Us This Day, recently installed at the Museum.

Enjoy free barbecue lunch from James Beard award nominated Damien Brockway (while it lasts). Join a family- friendly craft activity making fans. Then finish the day with a glorious gospel performance by Christopher D. Spivey & Co.

This event is free and open to the public, and includes lunch and refreshments. Attendees can enter to win a paddle board gift basket from Tequila 512  valued at $1250!

Commemorate Juneteenth 2025 at the Neill-Cochran House Museum. Tour the only intact and accessible slave dwelling in Austin, and reflect on the long journey from slavery to freedom and the contributions of the enslaved – those who truly built Austin.

See the newly-installed interior mural triptych, Give Us This Day by Fidencio Duran. This three-part artwork reconnects the interior of the main house to the Slave Quarters and surrounding back yard and returns to the visual narrative of the main house the lives of all the people who lived and worked at this site.

Meet Austin-based artist Rhea Rose

Rhea Rose was born in Los Angeles , CA. She opened the Phoenix Art Studio in 2000 at the age of 18.

Rhea began her artistic career as a portrait artist , but by apprenticing under professionals in different specialties she became proficient in mural painting, face painting, illustration and art instruction. She is currently a lead teacher at the Cordovan Art Schools, leading efforts to teach underprivileged youth in and outside of incarceration, and traveling the world with her personal art alongside renowned artist Frank Frazier.

Just a few minutes' walk from the UT Austin campus, we steward one of the city's oldest historic residences (1856), including Austin's only intact slave quarters.

We share our site, Austin, and Texas history from the city's birth in 1839 up to 1930 through historically furnished spaces as well as numerous rotating art and history exhibitions.

The Neill-Cochran House Museum is owned by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Texas.
