Zilker Theatre Productions To Showcase Austin Talent In Shrek The Musical! ZTP’s summer musical is a cherished Austin cultural event, attracting over 40,000 visitors each summer. 

Austin, June 10, 2016 --- On July 8, 2016, at approximately 8:15 pm, Zilker Theatre Productions will open the 58th annual Zilker Summer Musical in the verdant Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theater. Zilker Theatre Productions is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to providing access to provide exceptional performing arts experiences to the entire community. 

Nominated for 8 Tony Awards and 12 Drama Desk Awards, Shrek The Musical brings the beloved characters from the popular animated films to life on stage. Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre. The Zilker Summer Musical is always family-friendly, but ZTP takes a special delight presenting shows that specifically capture the hearts of children. We are confident that Shrek will again delight, thrill, and entertain over 40,000 Hillside audience members of all ages during its six week run during July and August 2016. 

“We are the longest running free admission, outdoor musical theatre production in the country and we’re thrilled to present such an incredible musical. This year’s cast is a talented, diverse, and incredible group that highlights some of the best dancers, singers, and artists in Central Texas” says ZTP’s Executive Director, Kate Hix. 

Each Year ZTP strives to think of new ways to engage the audience and their community and this year will be no exception. Every Saturday at 7:00 pm, members of the cast of Shrek will be onstage to invite children and audience members to come on stage for a Little Ogres Swamp Stomp. “Children love getting on stage and having a blast with some of their favorite cast members” says ZTP Board President Craig Barron; “they just can’t wait to get up there in front of their friends and family.” 

As always, these performances are fun, outdoors, family-friendly, and are offered at no cost to the public. As a nonprofit, the Zilker Summer Musical does encourage donations and is in the midst of a $15,000 fundraising campaign.  

Food, drinks and chair rentals are available at the Wells Fargo Hillside Market.
