Technical & Production Associate

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Operations, this employee will perform general technical and programmatic operations support, as well as help produce shows for KMFA both on air and online.

Essential Job Functions

  • Operations (40%)
    • Operate and maintain the electronic equipment used in the KMFA studios and technical plant.
    • Diagnose and resolve media system problems; conduct media system database maintenance.
    • Provide backup to Operations Coordinator in traffic log and automation playlist duties.
    • Review station operating and trouble report logs; handle issue resolution.
    • Perform IT support duties as needed.
  • Production (30%)
    • Produce audio and online program material
    • Assist program producers
    • Provide live broadcast support
  • Online Content (30%)
    • Coordinate online content
    • Maintain Events calendar/PSAs
    • Track and report digital analytics

Requirements

  • Associates degree or greater, with preference given to a broadcast technology or RTF emphases.
  • At least 1 year of relevant broadcast, studio, or IT experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Team-focused, positive, and flexible attitude.
  • Ability to work non-standard and weekend hours on rare occasions.

Preferred skills and attributes include an introductory knowledge of classical music, digital audio production, studio board operation, and live hosting, as well as high computer literacy and online content familiarity.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting salary: Low 30s
  • Employer-paid health insurance

  • Vacation accrued at a rate of .038 for hours worked (based 10 hours for Full-Time 2,080 Hours)\

Administrative Assistant

Position Overview

The role of the Administrative Assistant is to create a proactive, service-oriented environment in support of KMFA staff and activities. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the successful candidate will be an organized and accurate self-starter who enjoys executing a variety of tasks and anticipating the needs of others.

Essential Job Functions

  • Serve as the primary contact with station members and external customers by answering questions whenever possible and directing callers and visitors to the appropriate staff member when necessary
  • Answer phones, respond to visitor feedback, greet visitors, sort and distribute mail
  • Schedule and coordinate all staff, board and committee meetings. Send out notices, handle refreshments and space reservations for meetings, and monitor RSVP’s
  • Copy, compile and prepare information for reports and materials to be disseminated at board, staff and committee meetings.
  • Maintain office supplies, coffee and hospitality service, and contact with building management and vendors for routine maintenance and repairs
  • Perform clerical functions for the General Manager; including scheduling appointments and travel arrangements, setting up and recording minutes at meetings,
  • Maintain updated file of Standard Operating Procedures
  • Maintain KMFA Public File and Open Meeting Schedule postings
  • Provide support for special projects such as listener surveys, promotional mailings, and displays at concert and educational events

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience in a non-profit preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Confident self-starter; ability to juggle multiple assignments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills
  • Ability to attend occasional late afternoon/early evening/weekend functions
  • Ability to anticipate, troubleshoot, problem solve and create/implement systems that contribute to a smooth efficient and smart working environment
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for KMFA’s mission to provide an all-classical public radio service to Austin, high energy, sense of humor, “can-do” attitude, outgoing and friendly personality
  • Prefer ability to use own vehicle to run errands
