Throughout Black History Month, KMFA honors the contributions of Black and African American musicians, composers, and performers. You'll hear performances featuring conductor James DePreist and pianist Awadagin Pratt, and selections by composers J. Rosamond Johnson, and William Grant Still. Additional highlights will include music by Edward "Duke" Ellington, R. Nathaniel Dett, and a selection of spirituals sung by Austin's own Conspirare.

Take a deeper dive: In June, KMFA spoke with Dr. Rufus Jones, Jr., an Alumni of the University of Texas, who wrote the first-ever biography of Dean Dixon - one of the great, albeit forgotten, conductors of the 20th Century.
