Speaker: Karen Bernstein

Utilizing a wide range of A/V materials and book excerpts, this session will look at Leonard Bernstein’s relationship to Israel both historically and politically.  We’ll see excerpts from the American Masters documentary, Leonard Bernstein - Reaching For The Note, and from the rare Maysles Bros. film, Journey to Jerusalem (1968) which features Leonard Bernstein and Isaac Stern performing on Mount Scopus after the Six Day War.  The class will include discussion of his sense of spirituality and dedication to the state of Israel despite criticism later in life for his choice of programming.
